Bathroom Remodel Sink Details
Let’s face it - the vanity is the star of the show in most bathrooms. It is in my bathroom, anyway!
When I started looking for bathroom ideas, I was immediately drawn to the bathrooms in architect and designer - Gil Schaefer’s homes. Each one unique in their own way, but every one timeless and elegant. The vanities in each of his spaces felt like custom pieces of furniture rather than store bought, boxy cabinetry and there’s a fantastic balance of form and function.
After I gather interior ideas into a Pinterest board, I like to look for commonalities among the images. In my bathroom ideas board the sink area pictures all had the same features:
Carrara marble countertops
Silver-toned sink fixtures
Cross style knobs
Exposed under-sink fixtures
Built-in medicine cabinets
Wall mounted sconce lights
I knew that all of these elements would give me beautiful, timeless space I desired!
The vanity top in my bathroom was a lucky Facebook Marketplace score. It’s exactly what I was looking for - Carrera marble and exactly 36”. For the vanity base, I transformed an old kitchen table into my dream vanity with a little elbow grease and patience. I took as basic used kitchen table, cut it in half with a circular saw, repositioned the legs, and added a shelf. It was a little complicated, but in the end I saved a ton on lumber costs. One turned table leg would have cost me more than the entire table!
The vintage medicine cabinet and sconces were secondhand marketplace and eBay finds as well.
The finishing touches to complete my desired look are the amazing fixtures I used from Jaclo Industries - specifically their Roaring 20’s collection in their stunning polished nickel finish. The Roaring 20’s collection faucet is so beautiful that I catch myself just staring at it! It’s not just looks either - the faucet actually has a swivel function that allows me to move the spout to the left or right for when I am washing my face, brushing my teeth or filling a vase with water. It’s that little detail I never knew I needed! The ball cross handles were also a must for this look and they do not disappoint - so classic! The handles also came with two different sets of hot/cold caps - one ceramic and retro, the others plain polished nickel. Of course I went with the retro look!
The sink fixture details do not stop at the vanity top level. I also used a decorative supply kit and decorative trap from Jaclo Industries too. These are details that could not be overlooked with my exposed under sink, and they totally make the timeless look I was going for!
Something I notice about modern home renovations is that the details are often skipped. The functional pieces often become solely functional and the look of them gets disregarded. If you study old homes and what makes them timeless and beautiful, you’ll see that the details are never skipped - the fixtures are just as beautiful as the art on the walls. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to incorporate Jaclo Industries fixtures into my space - they truly are the perfect classically designed pieces for my vintage inspired space.
