One Room Challenge: Fall 2019/ Week 4
Week four already??? Yikes!
As I have been sharing on my Instagram, I am still waiting on my paint to arrive, so my space is kind of at a standstill until it gets here. I don’t want to waste any time in the meantime, so I have jumped into the finishing touches a bit.
My main focus this week has been perfecting the bedding. I was not exactly sure how I wanted to dress our bed, so I scrolled Pinterest for a while seeking inspiration. My findings? There are so many different ways to make a bed and so many different ways to mix basic bedding elements.
I decided on… duvet + quilt + coverlet + quilt shams + duvet shams + sheet shams. That sounds like a lot of different elements, but I love the look of a layered bed and it is oh-so-cozy.
Just like the rest of my ORC focuses, I wanted to pick the most eco-friendly bedding options, so they keywords I looked for were, “certified organic,” “sustainable,” and “GOTS Certified.” Just like your mattress, you breathe your bedding for hours every night and your wrap your largest organ, your skin, in it! I feel much better sleeping at night wrapped in chemical free bedding that is safe for me and safe for the environment!
I was pleased to find that many large retailers now include eco-friendly bedding in their assortment! Garnet Hill carries so many organic options! I chose my down comforter, duvet cover, and shams from them. I love that they are simple, white, and crisp, yet they have that washed and cozy feel that I love. I went with an all white duvet and sham so that it was very universal and I could inject color and print via throw pillows and blankets.
As a lover of color and print, I knew that I needed something other than white bedding, so I added a beautiful Kantha coverlet and a lumbar pillow made from remnants of vintage rug - both from Etsy. I love the pop of print and color they bring.
Lastly, after much deliberation, I decided to keep our Ol’ Faithful Pottery Barn quilt and shams on the bed. Hello reuse! This quilt is almost 10 years old, and it still looks great! The seed stitch texture adds so much to the bedding ensemble while still staying neutral! One thing I learned in this process is that if you are going to go very neutral with your space, you have to incorporate a good amount of texture.
I am SO inspired by what I am seeing by the other ORC participants!!! Check them out here.
