One Room Challenge : Fall 2019 / Week 3: Why I Chose a Green Mattress
This post is sponsored by Avocado Green Mattress, but the words and opinions are my own.
Well, it’s week three of the One Room Challenge, and I can’t say that I have accomplished very much from last week. With Cece’s birthday party and lots of errands to run, my time was limited! I did however get the headboard upstairs and started to play around with bedding options.
I always wanted to revamp my bedroom so that I could share it more on my blog and Instagram, but there was an elephant in the room… our 10 year old saggy mattress that no matter what I did always looked saggy. I knew that if I was going to make over our bedroom we were going to have to replace our mattress. There was no way around it.
When I started my mattress search, I was bombarded by the options - there are so many different kinds of mattresses out there! After my initial search, I decided that I definitely wanted a natural mattress for us. When I was pregnant with our first daughter I researched organic crib mattresses for days (maybe weeks) until I found the perfect one. The articles I read about the nasty chemicals used to make standard mattresses and chemical off-gassing were terrifying! So, if I was so picky about a mattress for my babies, why was I not taking my own health and well-being into consideration when mattress shopping for myself? After all, I (try to) spend at least 8 hours a night lying on and breathing a mattress - why pick one that is bad for my health?
In all of my research, Avocado Green Mattress came up as the #1 green mattress made from organic materials with 5 star reviews, so I knew it would be my top choice. I was a little skeptical about choosing a mattress without testing it out first, but the folks at Avocado Green Mattress offer a 1 year sleep trial, free shipping and pick up, and a 25-year warranty. So, if I decided I did not like it, I could simply send it back.
What’s even better about the Avocado Green Mattress is that it’s not only better for us than a generic mattress, but it’s also better for the environment! It is made from all sustainable materials, it’s biodegradable and recyclable, and the company is so thoughtful about the eco-friendliness of the packaging and delivery method. I reused the minimal packaging as a paint drop cloth too!
So what do we think of our Avocado Green Mattress? Love at first sleep. After our first night on the mattress we could not believe how much better our bodies felt, half as many achey joints. It definitely proved to us how poorly our old mattress was supporting our bodies. Sleeping on a natural latex foam mattress versus a traditional coil mattress took some getting used to - it’s more dense and supportive than our old mattress, but ultimately we are sleeping better and feel better waking up. We also have better peace of mind that the mattress we chose is better for our health and the health of the planet.
I feel so much better knowing that I made the right mattress choice - it supports our bodies better, our healthy lifestyle, and fulfills all of the eco-friendly requirements I had.
